What is the load index?
The load index is a numerical code representing the maximum load one properly inflated tire is designed to carry under its rating standard. It is not the load in pounds or kilograms by itself; it must be checked against a load-index chart.
What is the speed rating?
The speed-rating letter identifies a tested speed capability under specified laboratory conditions. It does not recommend a driving speed and does not account for damage, wear, pressure, road conditions, or vehicle limits.
Why matching the rating matters
Replacement tires should meet the vehicle manufacturer’s load requirements and use an appropriate speed rating. Lower or mismatched ratings can affect capacity, handling, electronic systems, and vehicle suitability.
